Alabama rural electric cooperatives assist Florida utility
Jan. 23 — Alabama’s rural electric cooperatives are sending 8 crews, a total of about 35 people, to Talquin Electric Cooperative in Florida to help the co-op restore power after the storms over the Jan. 21-22 weekend.
Wiregrass EC, Covington EC, Baldwin EMC and Cherokee EC are sending crews south on Monday morning.
High winds caused extensive damage to electric poles, power lines and substations across Talquin’s entire service area. At the height of the storm, approximately 22,000 meters were without power; as of Sunday, approximately 15,000 Talquin members were without power as a result of the damage to the infrastructure.
Talquin Electric Co-op is headquartered in Quincy, Fla., northwest of Tallahassee.
